Atrial fibrillation (AF) is increasingly prevalent in the general population and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Opportunistic screening for AF is now a class I indication in the most recent 2020 guidelines from the European Society of Cardiology (1). Systematic ECG screening should also be considered to detect AF in individuals aged >75 years, or those at high risk for stroke.
