The novel findings reported by Conway R and colleagues in the current issue of European Journal of Internal Medicine, entitled “Is there excessive troponin testing in clinical practice? Evidence from emergency medical admissions” [1], introduced to us an opportunity to review the importance of troponin testing in emergency medical care. Several studies have indicated the potential adverse outcomes such as unnecessarily prolonged hospitalization and invasive procedures caused by inappropriate troponin testing [2–4].
