Iron deficiency (ID) affects up to 50% of patients with chronic heart failure (HF). ID in patients with HF has been shown to be an independent adverse prognostic factor [1,2], it is associated with decreased exercise capacity [3 and quality of life [4,5] and has therefore become a therapeutic target.
