A 67-year-old male patient was admitted to the Emergency Department with a one-week history of hematemesis and melaena. He was known to have liver cirrhosis secondary to alcoholic liver disease. Upon admission, the patient was icteric and encephalopathic but hemodynamically stable and eupneic.
