Acute heart failure (AHF) is one of the most common reasons for emergency department (ED) attendance in Spain, 24% of patients being discharged home from the ED). AHF may present de novo, that is, as a first episode of heart failure (FEHF) or, more frequently, as a consequence of acute decompensation of chronic heart failure (DCHF) [1].
