There has been a tripling in the number of individuals with obesity around the globe within the last 50 years [1,2]. As a result, more than 650 million adults are considered obese whereas at least 1.9 billion adults are overweight [1,2]. Obesity is some factor for a number of chronic conditions including cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, chronic kidney disease, dyslipidemia, and some cancers as well as several other conditions resulting in an increased risk of mortality [3–5]
