The Early Career Group activities are coordinated by the recently formed Early Career Subcommittee within EFIM.


These are the inaugural subcommittee members:

Alberto Tosoni - Rome, Italy

Internal Medicine Specialist since 2018, Alberto is now a Consultant for the Gastroenterology Department - Gemelli Hospital of Rome. He spent part of his residency in Oxford (2015) and Tel Aviv (2017 - EFIM exchange program).
His research activities are mainly focused on management of sepsis in non-intensive care units and alcohol-related pathologies. He is interested also in leadership training for doctors and artificial intelligence in medicine.




Frauke Weidanz - Edinburgh, Scotland (Subcommittee Chair)

Frauke is a Consultant in Acute Internal Medicine and Critical Care in Edinburgh, having completed postgraduate training in Acute Internal Medicine, General Internal Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine in 2016. She has been involved in EFIM activities for many  years and previously served as Chair of the EFIM Young Internists Group. Her interests include teaching and training, communication skills and workplace culture as well as end of life decision making.




Gemma Ortiz - Barcelona, Spain

Gemma Ortiz finished her studies at  the Universitat autònoma de Barcelona in 2012 and completed training in General Internal Medicine in 2018. She currently works as a general internal medicine specialist and emergency medicine physician at  the Hospital de Terrassa. Her main interests are in autoimmune diseases and in education, teaching in Fundació Universitària del Bages - Manresa University. As a representative of Spanish Young Internists she joined European Young Internists’ group in 2017.                                                        



Ieva Ruza - Riga, Latvia

Ieva is an internist and endocrinologist working in Riga East Clinical University Hospital and Riga Stradins University in Latvia. In her clinical work she likes to use an interdisciplinary approach to problems. Her main medical focus is on calcium metabolism, sarcoidosis, rare and autoimmune diseases. She has been a part of an EFIM family for many years, previously serving also as a Chair of EFIM Young Internists. Being a passionate medical teacher, she has been a Director and a Co-Director of several EFIM postgraduate courses and participated in different activities, trying to promote high quality clinical and scientific research cooperation among young specialists.

Matthias Raspe - Berlin, Germany  

Internal Medicine Specialist since 2016, subspecialty training in respiratory medicine since 2016

Interests: Respiratory Medicine (especially lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension, invasive/non-invasive mechanical ventilation), communication, medical training, education, quality of care, stress factors of physicians
