Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-COV-2), the cause of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), emerged in China at the end of 2019 and has developed into a pandemic. The disease has a variety of clinical manifestations ranging from asymptomatic, or flu like syndrome (low grade fever, sore throat, myalgias, arthralgias, fatigue), but also to the development of bilateral pneumonia that can progress to hypoxia, dyspnea, respiratory failure, thrombotic diathesis, multiorgan failure and death.
