Although electronic medical records (EMR) have many potential benefits, one of their unintended consequences it that many physicians may now spend most of their working hours at a computer screen reviewing and entering data, while time spent at the bedside examining their patients has become limited. Both the decrease in direct physician-patient interaction and the burden of clinical documentation are strongly associated with physician burnout [1,2].
